I was stationed at Peden barracks in 1973 - 1974. I was in C battery 2nd tab, 25th Arty. When I first got there I had no idea I was about to taste the best bier in the world! Wertheim was the absolute best place to live and I hated to leave. The bier back then was called Lutz Bier, Spessart-Pils. Now it's called Spessart Specht. I've been looking for this bier in the USA now for 42 years. No I haven't found it yet. I've even emailed the Brewerie in both English and German - but no response from them. I plan on going back some day to visit (and drink a nice cold large bier).
